“Adam is the key cider writer in the UK” – Gabe Cook (The Ciderologist)

Perry: A Drinker’s Guide gives the full story of perry and will help you navigate the styles, flavours, varieties, countries, regions and producers behind this ancient and fascinating drink. Whether long-standing perry fans or those discovering perry for the very first time, the book offers a treasure trove of information.

Although the biggest industrial brands are on the wane, consumers and producers around the world are waking up to the brilliance, potential and variety to be found in perry and making better, more exciting full-juice perries than have ever been available before.

Adam Wells founded Cider Review in 2021 with James Finch, out of a cider column that Adam had previously curated in Malt Review. Cider Review is the natural evolution of that column – a repository for all of the cider tasting notes that one slot a week on a website about malt whisky couldn’t cover.

He has written widely about cider and perry including the UK section to Le Journal du Sommelier – Cidre, and has judged for the International Cider Challenge (which he now Chairs), the IWSC, the International Cider Competition, Bath & West British Cider Championships. Since 2023 he has also co-hosted the Cider Voice podcast.

In 2023 he won the British Guild of Beer Writers Award for Best Communication about Cider. he is one of the first people in Europe to become an ACA-certified Pommelier. His first book, Perry: A Drinker’s Guide was published in May 2024.
