An introduction to first steps in scything with David Kuegler, National Veteran Scything Champion. Suitable for all ages over 16.
2hr workshop sessions (also at 10am) each costing £30 per participant (scythe provided)
Try your hand at this traditional skill using a modern-day Austrian scythe. Under David’s expert guidance, you’ll learn the basic techniques of setting up your scythe to suit you, ‘honing’ your blade and the practice of scything safely.
In recent years, scything has seen a resurgence and become invaluable for the conservation mowing of orchards, wildlife-friendly gardens and flower-rich verges. And it’s so much easier on the ear than reaching for a strimmer or brush-cutter!
With practice, once you have mastered the technique, it can become effortless, fun and rather addictive.
Whether it is just to give it a swing or listen out for the swish, come give it go. The long grass of Hellens awaits you!
